Pastoral Care

The Pastoral Care Team (PCT) is led by Deputy Head (Pastoral) (DSL) and includes the Head of Key Stage 3 (Pastoral), Senior Nurse Practitioner, SENCO/Head of Learning Support, Pastoral Intervention Practitioner (PIP), Head of Sixth Form and Houseparents.  The Team focuses on both individual and collective needs and works closely with tutors and class teachers to effectively upskill and equip pupils with the tools required to enhance their educational journey. The PCT meet weekly to collectively identify the most appropriate strategies, support or intervention required to best meet the needs of our pupil body; this may be individual or group work / mentoring, signposting to resources, Thrive sessions, 1:1 time with our PIP or school counsellor or this may be referral to external support teams or the engagement of external speakers. The PCT are a source of advice and support for pupils, parents and staff and strive to ensure each child is seen and considered as an individual.
 

Pastoral care is an important component of the tutor programme, which actively supports the development of emotional resilience, kindness and self respect. Through the delivery of age-specific content, pupils are encourage to develop personal integrity, emotional resilience and become effective communicators.

There is a strong focus on pupil's wellbeing within the tutor/PSHE/RSE programme. We aim to help pupils understand how to manage their own wellbeing and develop the ability to look after themselves just as much as they look after each other. This is delivered through tutorial lessons and lectures by staff that really know our pupils and this is supplemented by outside specialist speakers.

Our ELSA-qualified and highly-experienced Pastoral Intervention Practitioner is a key member of the Pastoral Care Team, working closely with Houseparents, nursing staff and the Learning Support department in providing additional support for pupils as required.
 

An approach to help girls between the ages of 7 and 18 navigate the often-troubled waters of friendship problems.

We embrace the Girls on Board Programme approach which helps girls, their parents and their teachers to understand the complexities and dynamics of girl friendships. The language, methods and ideas empower girls to solve their own friendship problems and recognises that they are usually the only ones who can. By empowering girls to find their own solutions, parents need worry less, schools can focus more on the curriculum and the girls learn more effectively – because they are happier.
