Academic Programme
At Stonar we offer a broad range of A Levels subjects, as well as BTEC and Cambridge diplomas. Choose from over 20 course options.
We recommend that students take the equivalent of three A Level subjects. All Lower Sixth students will sit school exams in June and entry to the second year of study for each subject is conditional on achieving a pass in these exams, which provide valuable practise for the final exams.
A wide range of well-respected subjects are available, which may vary year on year, subject to demand.
Stonar Plus
The core academic programme is complemented by an extensive range of additional qualifications through our Stonar Plus programme. Students select from a wide range of subject options, including the EPQ, to extend their academic profile and, in many cases, gain additional UCAS points in their studies.

Sixth Form Courses Booklet
Read our Sixth Form booklet to discover what courses we are offering, the schemes of assessments and if individual courses have specific entry requirements. As well as detailed information on the A Levels and Diploma subjects available, there is also a wealth of information on the Stonar Plus additional qualifications.
Level 3 Diplomas
Our Level 3 Diploma courses (BTECs and Cambridge Diplomas) can deliver exceptional results for our students and are the equivalent of A Levels. These qualifications are widely recognised by universities.
They are often attractive to students who have a specific vocational path in mind and are better suited to achieving their potential through coursework assignments rather than traditional exams. Students are continually assessed throughout the two year programme through a combination of assignments and exams, each counting towards their overall grade. The number of lessons delivered over a fortnight will depend on whether the certificate, diploma or extended diploma option is chosen (equivalent to 1, 2 or 3 A Levels).
The opportunity to study A Levels alongside my Equine BTEC at Stonar has allowed me to develop both my academic theory and practical hands-on experience. This has provided me with a combination of invaluable and transferable skills, which will stand me in good stead when making university and job applications."

Academic Scholarships are awarded based on exceptional performance in the general entrance assessment process.
The Sixth Form Academic Scholarship is for candidates who are expected to achieve at least five GCSEs at grades 8-9. Candidates will also be expected to complete a cognitive abilities assessment. Along with suitable predicted grades and a reference from their current school, candidates will also have an interview with the Headmaster or Head of Sixth Form.
