Two pupils with teacher in a Maths lesson
Year 9

Year 9

Year 9 is all about ownership and leadership of self and others. Pupils are nurtured and assisted through a leadership programme to take ownership of the initial stage of the journey towards success in their GCSE exams.

The Stonar 9

In the Summer Term of Year 8, pupils and their families are supported in their first decisions on the path to the GCSE options.

The core subjects of English, Maths, Science and PE & Games continue to be offered in Year 9, but pupils benefit from a more focussed approach to their studies.

Year 9 Leadership Day

As part of the curriculum, we get our Year 9s out of the classroom to participate in an event designed to develop their leadership skills.

Pupils preselect their preferred role from an aspect of school life:
  • Sports Leader

  • Induction Mentor

  • Academic Mentor

  • Environmental Leader

Pupils work in teams to plan and lead an activity on the day, such as a PE lesson for younger pupils. They also take part in challenges and team-building activities.
