Curriculum and Admissions
At Stonar Nursery, we implement ‘In The Moment Planning’, which has a strong commitment to being child centred. The adult’s role is to observe children in a variety of situations, assessing what their play and interactions mean and recognising potential openings for further learning. ‘In The Moment Planning’ is not a new concept, it is what parents do every day with their child, responding to their interests and capturing these teachable moments whilst they are ‘in the moment’.
Our curriculum ensures children are well prepared for school when that transition approaches. Our extra-curricular activities allow children to explore their interests through a variety of experiences. Children spend lots of time outdoors, both in the Nursery dedicated play areas and in the wider school grounds. Forest School sessions take place twice weekly, and children also benefit from specialist teaching in sports, swimming and Spanish.
Warm and trusting relationships between staff and children gently encourage the children to grow emotionally, socially and intellectually. This is where they learn to love learning, ready for all the years that follow."
The Nursery welcomes children from age 2 and provides a gentle introduction to school life. Children may attend full time, or for a preferred number of sessions. The minimum number of sessions is four mornings per week or three day sessions. Fewer sessions may be considered for 2 year olds at the discretion of the Nursery Manager. We strongly recommend that pupils increase to five mornings minimum in the term before moving to Reception.
We work with your child's individual requirements to support them as they settle into the Nursery. Typically, a parent and child will attend together for an hour in the first instance. Subsequent visits aim to help children to feel comfortable and confident in their new environment, but the timings and duration of these will be agreed upon between you and the Nursery Manager.
