Reception Open Evening
Stonar's Prep School looks out over our vast green fields, providing space for our children to grow academically and pastorally. Nestled within our Prep School, our Reception class start their academic journey in a welcoming and supportive setting. Pupils follow 'In the Moment' learning for a child-led experience, with great importance being placed on outdoor learning. Despite having their own building, Stonar Prep children have full access to the whole school facilities, including weekly swimming lessons from Nursery onwards.
Our year-round integration is unique and makes the transition from our Nursery to Reception seamless. Nursery and Reception share outside spaces, visit each other in the classrooms often, and will have fun events together throughout the year. This continuous integration throughout the school year gives the children time to get to know each other, and bond with their Reception teacher.
Our Reception Open Evening will provide families with an opportunity to experience first hand our stunning countryside campus. Head of Prep, Mr Rob Cunningham, will be hosting the evening supported by his Prep teaching team and admissions staff, who will be on hand to answer any questions.

Meet our Reception Teacher, Mrs Jackie Wills
Jackie Wills joined Stonar in September 2019, and has been teaching our Reception class for 3 years.
Mrs Wills has a 15 year career specialising in Early Years education, working in a range of settings and age ranges. She has a passion for Early Years and a particular interest in early reading, early writing and phonics. Whether Jackie is leading the class outdoors to Forest School, or teaching them how to write their first words, she places great importance on forming bonds with each child in her care.
Jackie has also had experience in boarding duty at Hart House, so she understands how crucial pastoral care is for our pupils' development.
"I love being a Reception teacher, and for me, there is nowhere I'd rather be than Stonar. As a parent of two boys who have progressed through Stonar Prep and now into the Senior School, I have experienced firsthand the care and attention to detail the staff and children give to each other. There is a real sense of community, friendship and care for everyone. I consider myself very luck to be able to do the job I love in such a special place." Jackie Wills
The atmosphere at the school is nurturing yet encouraging children to grow and develop. We have and have had some wonderful teachers over the course of the last few years; Mrs Wills is exceptional."

Meet our Head of Prep, Mr Rob Cunningham
Rob Cunningham joined Stonar in September 2019, and has been teaching for almost 20 years.
Throughout his career Rob has taught in every year group and had the opportunity to lead a variety of subjects, ranging from Maths to PSHE. This vast experience enables him to drive forward academic standards and individual achievement, while ensuring pupils are enjoying learning and develop a lifelong curiosity for the world around them.
Rob oversees the entire Prep School, and teaches lessons in every Key Stage.
"There are a number of things that I enjoy most about Stonar, but it starts as you drive onto the estate; the School has a very special feel about it and the space and sky immediately put you in a positive state of mind. This immediate impression is backed up by dedicated staff, committed and happy children and a positive community." Rob Cunningham
Outside learning is an integral part of the Stonar day. As well as a communal garden and a newly refurbished outside play area, Reception children are taken to Forest School as frequently as possible - whatever the weather may be!
Many children love to be outside where they feel free to express themselves. Working practically outside means they form strong bonds with their classmates and learn to work collaboratively together. It also teaches the children to question the world around them and really appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds our school. Forest School is a chance for our pupils to increase their resilience and try those risky challenges, that with a bigger sense of freedom, they can achieve.
I feel confident when dropping off my child that they are in the best possible hands and environment!"
