Prep Open Morning

Jess has worked at Stonar for five years, first as an Early Years Practitioner, and now as Nursery Manager. A former Stonar pupil herself, Mrs Tyler-Boorer really understands how important Early Years education is for a child's development and strives to make the Nursery a fulfilling and welcoming environment. 

Recognising how it can be difficult for young children to be separated from their main carers, Mrs Tyler-Boorer's first priority is building positive relationship with each child in her care. She values the importance of nurturing children, allowing them to feel safe, secure and ready to learn. 

Mrs Tyler-Boorer's role as Early Years SENCO involves early intervention and ensuring that all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential. She supports both Nursery and Reception children who require 1:1 interventions, focusing on their individual needs. 

Justine Skinner has worked at Stonar for six years, and teaches one of our Year 6 classes. She runs art clubs in contribution to the co-curricular programme, which are very popular among different year groups.

Being Stonar Prep's Curriculum Lead, Mrs Skinner sees over the immersive curriculum we follow (the International Primary Curriculum), ensuring our pupils develop a love for learning. She tracks and monitors what is being taught in the IPC, making sure education throughout the Prep School is seamless and contextual. Event days that complement learning, such as our recent Science Week, are organised by Mrs Skinner and Mr Gower.

As well as this, Mrs Skinner is also the Subject Lead for Environmental Education, and heads up our Eco Committee. Pupils from Prep to Senior can join, and make a real difference to the School and beyond with their eco-conscious initiatives. 

Dan Gower has been with us for five years, and has made a great impression with pupils, parents and staff. Being our Co-curricular Lead, he ensures that our after school offering complements and enhances children's time at Stonar Prep. Mr Gower works alongside our Head of Adventure Training and Stonar Clubs to ensure a wide variety of provisions, that link with offerings in the Senior School. The Prep Liason for our Sport Department, and an avid rugby player, you can often find Mr Gower heading up a Games lesson out on the green fields. 

Organising trips falls under his belt, and Mr Gower has been heavily involved in previous trips to Barcelona, as well as our upcoming York residential trip. He is also our Computing Lead, and he works with Mrs Skinner to tie together the curriculum in classroom and IT learning methods. He also works with Ms Saunders to organise events such as the Poetry Slam. 

Mr Gower has also worked in the boarding community, and recently held the position of Relief Houseparent of Hart House. He really understands the importance of excellent pastoral care, and he exhibits this in his classroom, in the corridors, and on the rugby pitch!

Henrietta Saunders is our Literacy Lead, overseeing the phonics programme and encouraging an environment that treasures reading. 

Since joining over five years ago, she has implemented an English Programme, and the children are enthused by the passion she has for her subject. The phonics programme tracks the progress of each child in the Prep School, and helps asses children as well. In Early Years, we follow a specific phonics programme called 'Read, Write, Inc' that ensures a strong grounding for each individual to access the rest of the curriculum as they progress through the Prep School. 

To bring reading and literacy to life, Ms Saunders also organises events to complement her programmes. World Book Day is one of the most popular, where our pupils come to school dressed as a fictional character and spend the day understanding why books are so important. Alongside this event is our annual Book Fair, which gives children the opportunity to peruse some new titles and even purchase a book.
