Stonar's Senior pupils are active, happy and ambitious. Our environment enables them to do more and do better than they ever thought possible. There is a culture of joyfulness, where pupils enjoy their day to day school life, enhanced by positive relationships between peers and teaching staff.
Your child will be challenged and inspired during this transformative and exciting phase in their educational journey. Woven into the fabric here is the ambition to enable our young people to develop holistically and gain a deeper experience of the world. The bar is set high academically and with encouragement rather than pressure, pupils are motivated to work towards their goals, leading them to achieve with joy.
When benchmarked against over 10,000 pupils of the same ability across the UK, Stonar pupils typically achieve a grade and a half better."
Matthew Way, Headmaster
'' Three weeks into my time here as the Head, my wife and I were called to a meeting with my son's tutor. He was doing GCSEs at the time. In the nicest possible way, we were being told that he wasn't working hard enough. We addressed this with our son, who claimed that he was working hard - I pointed out that this obviously wasn't 'Stonar working hard'. With firm, but kind and supported encouragement from teachers with whom he built positive relationships, he raised his game and achieved GCSE results beyond our expectations. All the while, this never compromised his general sense of happiness and enjoyment of the school.
As parents we all want our children to be happy, but if we are honest with ourselves, we want them to do well too. These are not mutually exclusive aims. In the Stonar Senior School there is the underlying expectation that you will work hard. However, the freedom from negative peer pressure to be 'too cool for school' and the absence of a sneering back row means that intellectual curiosity and a desire to do well do not place children outside the social norm. Indeed, one pupil described it to me as 'just what we do here'.
I commend this Senior School section of our website to you and hope you enjoy the ambitious, progressive and diverse academic and co-curricular content. "

“When we were looking at what we wanted school-wise for our children, happiness, inclusivity, social awareness, friendship, and the academic side of things were the most important things on our list. Well, what can I say? Grace has had all of this and so much more from Stonar.”
