Forces Families

A message from Mr Way, Headmaster:

Portrait of Headmaster Matthew Way

'' I fondly remember my time in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Royal Regiment in the 1990s and I keep in touch with those with whom I served through my Regimental Association and the occasional lunch and dinner. Indeed, it was probably my role in recruit training that moved me towards teaching after several happy years in the Army.

Having worked in boarding schools for over 20 years now, and having been a Housemaster for ten of those years, I well understand the needs of military families, whether their children are coming to us as boarders or day pupils.

I always determined that when I became a Headmaster I would make sure that we looked after our military families and gave them the best possible package, financially, pastorally and academically. Many families are moving around every few years or face the prospect of a possible move before long. Other families have decided to settle in one place, but the parent who is serving may be away for many weeks or months.

Whatever the circumstances, it is vital that school is a home-from-home and a term-time ‘family’ that ensures children can continue to thrive, surrounded by friends and supportive Houseparents and other staff. We provide the consistency and stability to compensate for regular postings or sudden upheaval, the care and love in the absence of parents and the understanding families need when faced with challenging circumstances.

I am, therefore, proud to be able to offer all military families an industry-leading automatic 20% discount on day and boarding fees. For those families who are not eligible for the CEA allowance, further means-tested bursaries may be available to help support with fees. The Admissions Team can advise you on this.

Given all of this and the nature of the school and our location, it is no surprise that we have a good number of military families already within the school. Please see our section on how we support Forces families and do get in touch if you would like to find out more.''
