Stonar is a British Horse Society approved Equestrian Centre and riding has been a core feature of the school for several decades. The outstanding facilities include first class indoor and outdoor schools, stabling for 65 horses, a cross country schooling field with a wide variety of different fences and a hacking track.
Whether pupils are complete beginners, wanting to ride for fun or are already riding competitively, our equestrian education will continue their riding development. Riders can bring their own horse or pony to school. It is also possible for riders to loan one of Stonar's horses or ponies once they have been enrolled and attending the school for at least two terms. We offer a variety of options for riders of different levels, whether you're simply looking for a weekly lesson, or if you’re a serious competitor.
Director of Riding, Darrell Scaife FBHS, UKCC, is British Eventing Master Coach and FEI Coach. His experienced team deliver the highest quality teaching. Their philosophy is that whatever level a rider wishes to attain, they must firstly gain a thorough grounding, a correct position and a correctly trained, happy horse.
A coaching system underpinned by strong fundamental techniques provides mentoring for young riders and individual development plans for more advanced riders, enhanced with regular clinics delivered by specialists. There are regular opportunities to compete both at school and externally. School teams are frequently successful at NSEA competitions and Stonar's own Inter Schools One Day Event Championships.

Our desire is to ensure that every rider will become the very best they can be. We believe in developing all aspects of horsemanship so that both hobbyist and aspirational rider will be fully prepared for a lifetime’s love and involvement with horses.
Stonar is also an official Pony Club Centre. Riders can work towards Pony Club attainment tests. From the age of 14 riders can study for the British Horse Society Assistant Instructor qualification and the UKCC is available in our Sixth Form.
