Equestrian Qualifications

As an official Pony Club Centre, Stonar offers all Prep riders the opportunity to progress through the Pony Club testing system. Prep Pupils can join the Pony Club at Stonar if they are not already members of a branch.

The Pony Club’s training structure encourages riders to take tests which enable them to learn progressively about horse and pony care and riding. External examiners will attend on testing days to assess Stonar riders.

Pupils can embark on their professional qualifications from 13 years (L1) or 14 years (L2), and can either choose to focus on all aspects of the syllabus, or after they have gained the complete L2 they can choose to follow one of the focused pathways. Pupils can begin the L3 from 16 years old.

The exams are very hands-on and practical, and while a large amount of theory must be covered and learned, these qualifications are all about being able to care for the horse efficiently and competently following correct techniques and with a strong awareness of safety of self, the horse and others.
 

Stonar offers Sixth Form students a Level 3 qualification in Horse Management.

This may be the course for you if: 

• You are interested in following a career in providing care and management for horses 

• You are interested in developing specialist experience in managing and riding horses  

• You want the opportunity to develop your riding skills on the flat and over fences 

• You want to gain the academic skills and practical experience needed for a management role 
   

We offer a non-riding route for those who are interested in a career in the equine sector but do not wish to ride.
