BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Equine Management

Stonar’s Equestrian Centre offers Sixth Form students the chance to gain recognised qualifications while pursuing their passion for horses. Our Equine BTEC can be studied alongside one or two A Levels, allowing students to tailor their programme to their individual interests and career goals.

BTEC Level 3 Equine Management Teacher & BHS Stage 4 Eventing Coach

Mrs Holt is a dedicated equestrian educator with extensive experience in delivering vocational training within the equine industry. She plays a key role in developing and delivering a curriculum that combines academic rigour with practical application, ensuring students gain a comprehensive understanding of equine science, management and performance.

The Equine BTEC at Stonar offers an exciting opportunity for students to combine academic study with their passion for horses. This nationally recognised qualification provides a solid foundation in all aspects of equine management, from horse care and health to nutrition, behaviour and business operations. Designed in partnership with the equine industry, the BTEC develops both practical skills and theoretical understanding, preparing students for employment in the sector or progression to higher education.

  • Extended Certification in Equitation (1 A Level)
  • National Diploma in Equitation (2 A Levels)

Course Structure & Units

  • Nine mandatory units (some externally assessed and some internal)
  • A number of optional units to tailor the qualification towards your career goals

  • Deep knowledge of equine anatomy, physiology, disease, nutrition & behaviour
  • Practical skills in handling, horse care, yard management, tack & competition preparation

This qualification is accepted by many universities and higher education providers for relevant degrees programmes.

My time at Stonar has been so amazing and I am so grateful for all the amazing support from all my teachers. I couldn’t have done it without them! I am looking forward to going to Oxford Brookes to study Equine Science, which was my first choice!

Katie achieved an outstanding result in her Equine Management BTEC with a Distinction* (Equivalent to A*), combined with two A Levels in Psychology and Photography. She is now studying Equine Science at Oxford Brookes.
