International Student Admissions
Stonar is an exceptional co-educational day and boarding school, offering the British curriculum to pupils from 2 to 18. We have a well-established tradition of educating pupils from all over the world. International pupils make up a small proportion of the Stonar community, however they make a major contribution to school life. We welcome applications from overseas: full boarders from Year 5, as well as families relocating who wish to apply for day places. Our commitment to outstanding pastoral care, a comprehensive curriculum, and a vibrant co-curricular programme fosters holistic growth and nurtures a lifelong love of learning in our safe and secure rural setting.

While we encourage visits from international families, we understand that this may not always be feasible. Therefore, we are always happy to arrange video calls to tell you more about the school and answer any questions you may have. Alternatively, the Headmaster and members of the Admissions team embark on overseas trips annually and are always delighted to meet with prospective students and their families during these visits.
Choosing to pursue your education in the UK can be an overwhelming prospect, especially from a distance. However, we remain committed to providing unwavering support and guidance throughout the entire process, ensuring a smooth and stress-free transition.
Applying For A Place
- The Admissions Team is experienced in guiding international parents and prospective pupils through our entry requirements, from first enquiry and visit, to your son’s or daughter’s arrival for their first term.
- Admissions to Stonar are by online examination and an informal interview with the Headmaster or Director of Admissions and Marketing.
- All international applicants will also sit an English as an Additional Language assessment.
- An offer of a place is subject to a satisfactory report and reference from the child’s current school.
Places are normally offered to successful candidates within two weeks of sitting our assessment tests and having the interview. Places should be accepted within four weeks of receipt of an offer. After that time, the School reserves the right to offer places to any candidates on the waiting list. On acceptance of a place, parents are required to sign an acceptance form and review our terms and conditions which sets out clearly the basis on which an offer is being made and accepted, and return the signed acceptance form along together with the Acceptance Deposit.
Entry Points
- Applications are accepted for entry into Years 7, 9 and the Lower Sixth as per the timings detailed on the Admissions Process page. We will also consider applications for other year groups, subject to availability.
I’m proud to say that Stonar has been my second home for nearly 5 years, ever since I started my study abroad journey in the UK. Looking back, I never imagined becoming so confident in my second language, adapting in a country with a completely different culture, and being able to form such diverse friendships. This is all the result of Stonar’s inclusive, supportive and welcoming environment. Throughout my years of studies, Stonar has offered me a great level of academic and pastoral support, and such a homely boarding environment to return to every day, with immense care given by my Houseparents and friends. At the start of my journey at Stonar, I found it difficult to adapt to new school life. However, my mentor and teachers were excellent in guiding me all the way through my GCSEs and A Levels, supporting me to set personal goals, and helping me to understand advanced concepts, as well as exploring university courses with me. I truly believe Stonar is a place where students can truly thrive, regardless of their background, race, age, and personal experience.
