The Stonar Way 7.03.25

Matthew Way shares his excitement for the arrival of Spring and the upcoming events we have at Stonar.

You may know the proverb that ‘March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb’. This often describes our experience of the month, with the lion’s fierce roar of frigid cold and the long white teeth of biting winds at the start, followed by the warmth of fluffy white fleeces and the innocent kiss of sunshine, like a docile newborn lamb, by the end. In fact, it is probable that this saying has more to do with the month beginning with the constellation Leo. Leo (the lion) rises in the east to start March and ends the month with the constellation Aries (the ram, or lamb) setting in the west.

Either way, the lamb seems to have arrived early and the sunshine of the last 10 days has certainly brought a renewed sense of energy and joy, as the pupils have been able to get outside around our wonderful campus at break times. Spring is a time when we emerge from winter hibernation, encouraged by the warmth of the sun and the sight of blossoming flowers. It is a time where we feel motivated to get outdoors, be more active, and even tackle the long-overdue spring cleaning. There is something about the lighter evenings and crisp mornings that make everything feel possible again.

For pupils, this season brings not just brighter days but a calendar packed with exciting events. This week alone, World Book Day has sparked enthusiasm, with pupils dressing up as their favourite literary characters and the ‘Who’s coming to dinner’ challenge in the Library all celebrating the magic of reading. Hot on its heels, an incredible programme for Science Week promises hands-on experiments, inspiring talks, and discoveries that fuel young minds. It has also been Careers Week, offering pupils invaluable insights into their futures and showing them the possibilities that lie ahead.

The excitement does not stop there! Tickets for School of Rock are now on sale, promising a fantastic showcase of talent and dedication. Meanwhile, the Mid-Somerset Drama Festival provides another wonderful opportunity for children to express themselves through performance, building confidence and creativity.

Spring is a season of renewal, energy, and activity, and this year is no exception. With so much happening, it is the perfect time to embrace the positivity, get involved, and make the most of these longer, brighter days.
