Mrs Cholmondeley, Deputy Head (Academic), reflects on the importance of a strong relationship between parents and teachers.

From the Deputy Head (Academic)

It has been a pleasure to welcome so many parents to our Friday evening Parent Information Evenings this term. These gatherings have provided a valuable opportunity to look ahead to the coming year, meet tutors and spend time with other families. With refreshments and lively conversation, they have also reminded us of the warmth and support of the Stonar community.

Each year brings new opportunities and questions. Whether pupils are settling into Senior School, beginning their GCSE courses or preparing for life beyond the Sixth Form, understanding what lies ahead helps families feel informed and confident about how best to support them.

Of course, these evenings are just the beginning of the conversation. A strong partnership between school, pupils and parents develops through regular, open communication. Parents bring an understanding of their child’s interests, ambitions and worries; teachers contribute insight into their learning and progress; pupils take responsibility for their learning and recognise their achievements and targets. Together, we can celebrate successes, recognise difficulties early and agree practical ways forward.

To help keep this communication joined up, we encourage parents to make their child’s tutor the first point of contact for questions or concerns. Tutors have an overview of each pupil’s school experience and can involve the appropriate colleagues where needed. MySchoolPortal is another important part of this partnership, providing access to letters, reports, merits and attendance information. Checking it regularly helps parents stay informed, celebrate their child’s achievements and keep up to date with school news and upcoming events.

Thank you to everyone who has joined us this term and contributed to such positive evenings. We look forward to continuing these conversations at parent evenings and throughout the year, working together to help every pupil feel supported, challenged and ready to make the most of their time at Stonar.
