The Stonar Way 14.03.25

The Head of Prep highlights the importance of team work and stepping outside of our comfort zones.

At Stonar, we pride ourselves on academic excellence, but we also know that true success comes not just from individual achievements, but from the ability to work together. Teamwork and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do, helping our pupils develop essential life skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.

This was never more evident than during our recent Adventure Afternoon, where our Year 5 and 6 pupils had the opportunity to work alongside children from two local primary schools. At the start of the afternoon, the three schools stood apart, each group staying within the comfort of their familiar classmates, but as the activities unfolded, something remarkable happened - barriers broke down, and friendships formed.

Faced with a series of outdoor challenges, the children quickly realised that success depended on cooperation, trust, and shared effort. Whether they were putting up tents, making hot chocolate over a Trangia stove, or navigating an orienteering course, they had to communicate, problem-solve, and support one another. By the end of the afternoon, the once separate groups had blended together completely. A particularly touching moment was watching them hold hands to complete a problem-solving activity - an act that, just hours earlier, might have seemed unthinkable.

This experience reinforced an important lesson: achievement is not only about personal progress but also about how we connect and work with others. Just as we encourage our pupils to strive for academic excellence, we also want them to understand that success is enriched by teamwork. The ability to collaborate, listen, and support one another is just as valuable as any test score or exam result.

As we move forward, let’s continue to celebrate both academic and personal growth. At Stonar, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom - it happens when we challenge ourselves, step outside our comfort zones, and work together. The Adventure Afternoon was a perfect reminder that, in education and in life, we are always stronger together.

A huge thank you to Mrs Bennett for organising such a fantastic afternoon, and to Mr Burns and Mrs Bouchard for supporting her. Your hard work and enthusiasm made this experience so valuable for all the children involved!
