Matthew Way reflects on the Autumn Term and bids a fond farewell to Sarah Burns, and warm wishes for a peaceful Christmas.

As we reach the end of this Autumn Term, I am struck once again by the pace, purpose and sheer vitality that flows through Stonar. It has been a term filled with achievement—academic ambition enhanced by countless trips, lectures and events, though-provoking drama in D.N.A. our senior play, the joy of our Prep Nativities, superb equestrian successes including national qualifications, several Globeducate events here and abroad, and our sports teams continuing to impress across the region. The School feels alive with possibility, and I am deeply proud of the pupils and all they have chosen to contribute.

Yet as we head into the Christmas holidays, it is impossible not to reflect on a world that feels increasingly fragile—marked by conflict, instability, and social strain in many parts of the globe. Against that backdrop, the message of Christmas rings with renewed clarity: peace, hope, compassion, and the quiet strength that comes from community. Schools are at their very best when they embody these values, and I remain profoundly grateful for the Stonar community—the way our pupils support one another, the commitment of our staff, and the trust and partnership of parents. We are, in every sense, fortunate.

This term we also say a heartfelt goodbye to Sarah Burns, who completes her time at Stonar at the end of December. Most Stonar parents will have first come to know Sarah through their admissions process where they will have encountered her warmth, honesty and unwavering belief in what makes this place special. She has shaped the experience of countless families and played a pivotal role in the growth and reputation of the School. We thank her for her dedication and for the integrity with which she has served our community, and we wish her every success as she moves into the facilities management sector as Director of Marketing. She leaves with our affection, admiration, and gratitude.

It remains only for me to wish all our families a peaceful Christmas and a restorative holiday. Thank you for your support, and I look forward to all that 2026 will bring.
