Sophie Hughes – Acting Deputy Nursery Manager, joined in September 2023
Tell us a bit about yourself
I was born in 1997 and grew up in Trowbridge with my mum, dad, two older brothers, and our Cocker Spaniel, Hugo. I attended Grove Primary School before moving on to Clarendon Academy, where I completed my GCSEs and A-Levels, leaving in 2015.
My passion for working with children began in primary school when I became a Year 6 buddy - helping new reception children settle in quickly became my favorite part of the day. This early experience inspired me to pursue a career in childcare, and since 2015, I have worked my way up through various roles and qualifications in the field.
Now, I live in my own little home in Trowbridge and am proud to be part of the Stonar team, where I get to witness young children grow, learn, and thrive every day. The opportunities Stonar provides - both for the children and for my own professional development - make my role incredibly rewarding.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
My love for adventure extends beyond work! I spend my free time exploring new places across the UK - whether it’s hiking, visiting beaches, or discovering charming towns. I also enjoy trying new experiences, from helicopter rides to conquering Snowdon. Most recently, I attempted paddle boarding with the nursery team (and, of course, I was the only one who fell in!).
On a more relaxed note, I’ve recently started making my own pasta and take every opportunity to invite friends and family over to show off my new skills!
What is your favorite part of the job?
I love watching the children grow and develop each day. Seeing their enthusiasm as they master new skills - even the simplest ones - is incredibly rewarding. Their contagious smiles and excitement make every day a joy.
What is a fun fact about you?
I love all things adventure-related and have a tradition of collecting a shot glass from every city or country I visit—many more to come! I also have a passion for thrill-seeking experiences, with my favorite so far being a 15,000ft skydive… just for fun!
