Lower Sixth Attend MUN at Marlborough College

Last Friday, Stonar LVI students took part in a Model United Nations conference held at Marlborough College, bringing together around 430 pupils from 35 schools across England for a day of debate, diplomacy, and global discussion.

The event opened with a keynote address from Lord Jonathan Evans, former Director of MI5, and Davina McCall, who both set the tone for a thought-provoking and inspiring conference. Lord Evans encouraged delegates to “learn to disagree well,” highlighting the importance of listening carefully to others in order to truly understand different perspectives. Olaolu waving the flag of Ukraine across the stage was an excellent moment!

Students from Stonar took on a range of challenging global issues as the delegations of Chile and Ukraine, debating topics including freedom of speech, the global rebalancing of power, disputed territories, children’s upbringing, reparations, and access to drinking water.

It was a fantastic opportunity to develop confidence, critical thinking, and teamwork skills in an international forum. A special highlight for Alex was managing to get a selfie with Davina McCall!

An excellent effort from all involved - well done to everyone who participated and represented the school so well.
