Rise in top GCSE grades & 47.7% at A*-A

Staff, parents and pupils are celebrating after a fantastic crop of GCSE results at Stonar.

A total of 47.7% of grades were awarded at A* to A with 15.6% at A*. The English department are celebrating after achieving a record 81% at A*-A, with 100% at A*-B.

Individual sciences were similarly strong, with 100% at A* to B in Physics and 100% at A* to C overall.

Some stunning sets of individual results were as follows:
Sophie Kelly achieved 8 A*s and 2 As
Samantha Jackson achieved 8 A*s, 2 As and a B
Angelina Cunningham achieved 4 A*s and 6 As

Sophie Kelly and Samantha Jackson have the added distinction of having achieved full marks in each of their six science papers.

With 15.6% of the grades across all subjects at Stonar awarded A* grade (almost three times the national average) it's easy to forget that Stonar admits pupils with a wide range of academic ability. However, every pupil takes the challenging IGCSE in Maths, English and the Sciences.

Stonar consistently scores in the top 10% of schools for added value in an independent Durham University study and pupils make exceptional progress with an average 0.5-1 uplift in grades achieved against predictions measured at the start of Year 10.

"I am delighted to see so many pupils achieving so highly. It is a great credit to their hard work and perseverance as well as the dedication and support of the staff. Stonar's open and supportive culture embeds resilience and motivation; our pupils understand their own learning styles and aim high – which pays off," said Head, Dr Sally Divall.
