New Vocational Qualifications

Stonar is broadening the options available in the Sixth Form with two new equestrian qualifications available from September 2016.

These include the EQL in Horse Care and Management and a UKCC Coaching Certificate. Sixth Formers will be able to study for the qualification as a stand-alone course, or alongside A Levels.

The EQL and UKCC offer industry-recognised qualifications for pupils looking to build a career in the equestrian world. The EQL in Horse Care and Management Qualification (which replaces NVQ) is a practical qualification available at Level 2 and 3. Level 2 offers an introductory level certificate while pupils completing Level 3 will have a broad knowledge base, equipping them to enter a wide variety of careers with horses.

The UKCC Level 1 and 2 certificates are also available, and pupils completing Level 2 will then hold a coaching certificate which qualifies them to teach.

Director of Riding, Darrell Scaife said, "This is an exciting new chapter for Stonar's Equestrian Centre and gives our pupils a route into whichever equestrian career they choose. The courses are very hands on, and with our Equestrian Centre on site, pupils can immerse themselves in the equestrian world. Our riding programmes dovetail with academic studies so pupils can get the best of both worlds."

Riders at Stonar already have the option to embark on Stonar's Rider Development Programme, improving their horsemanship skills in dressage, show jumping and cross country. Training is also available for the British Horse Society's exams.
