Sciences shine at A Level

Stonar staff and students celebrated A Level results today, with some outstanding successes and students gaining places to study a wide variety of courses at university.

The overall A Level pass rate is 100%, with an excellent 44% of passes at A*- B grades and 70% at A* to C grades. Maths, Sciences and Psychology were high scoring subjects, with 100% of Physics passes at A* - B grades.

Abigail Collis-Smith from Cardiff gained 3 x A grades and takes up a place at Cardiff University to study Medicine. Abigail and her parents were delighted with the results and thanked staff for the academic support Abigail received at Stonar.

Mrs Collis-Smith said “She’s over the moon; we’re all over the moon. Abigail has worked really hard and it’s paid off. We are heading out to celebrate today.”

Abigail, who joined Stonar in 2006, said “Stonar were really supportive and helped me get through; it was the perfect working environment for what was quite a challenging course”.

Holly Jones, from Dubai who joined Stonar in the Sixth Form, gained 2 x A*s and a B. Stonar’s 2015 Sports Personality of the Year, Holly will be taking up a place at Exeter University to study Exercise and Sports Science.

Katie Lui from Hong Kong who gained 4 x A grades. Katie will go on to study Surveying at the University of Hong Kong. Candy Lin also from Hong Kong, gained an A*, A and 2 x B grades; Candy will be heading to Warwick University to study Engineering.

Laura Clothier, a keen rider from Bruton in Somerset, gained 2 x As and a B grade whilst studying an equestrian course alongside her A Level courses. Laura will be taking up a place to study Psychology at Warwick University.

Laura Warren from Marshfield, Wiltshire gained an A*, A and C grades; Laura is taking up a place at Glasgow University to study Psychology.

Sophie Drew, from Calne, Wiltshire gained a scholarship into the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts to studyActing and Musical Theatre following a gruelling and highly competitive audition process against 3,000 applicants. Holly Andreu, from Chiswick will be taking up her unconditional offer from Plymouth College of Art and Design to study Game Arts.

Former Head Girl, Isabella Brown, gained a place at Norland College in Bath, to study BA (Hons) in Early Years Development & Learning with the Norland Diploma.

Other pupils were delighted to gain places on a diverse range of courses includingBiology, Psychology, Engineering, Law, Human Biology, History and International Relations.

Head, Dr Sally Divall said:  “I am thrilled to see so many pupils achieving their ambitions in a wide variety of fields and look forward to hearing about their future careers”.
