Conservative 'MP' for Stonar

Election fever has gripped Stonar this week and pupils turned out to vote yesterday in the school's mock election. A strong 92% turnout delivered an emphatic result for the Conservative candidate, Beatrice Titcombe who took 44.7% of the vote.

Nominated candidates had an intense period of campaigning to secure votes. A hustings took place where the Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat, Green and UKIP parties presented their manifestos to the school. Some very persuasive arguments were presented and other parties' policies were skilfully attacked with some very witty put downs.

This was followed a few days later by Question Time where candidates were relentlessly heckled by the electorate. Pupils were also canvassed around the school with a competitive poster campaign.

"Pupils have responded positively with many saying how they are now engaging in political debate with the parents and friends," said Charlotte Bennett, Head of Sixth Form. "This has been a huge success in helping pupils understand the democratic process."

Bea Titcombe gave a speech of thanks at assembly this morning, thanking her fellow candidates for having provided such good competition and everyone who turned out to vote.

The final results were as follows:

Conservatives: 44.7%

Green: 15.5%

Liberal Democrats: 15.5%

Labour: 10.5%

UKIP: 14%

A big thank you and well done to all the girls who have volunteers to make up the political parties:

Conservative: Bea Titcombe, Chiara Aylett, Cecily Peto Bostick

Labour: Becky Leigh, Sophie Drew, Poppy Richardson, Jimena Navarro Aguila

Lib Dem: Izzy Journeaux, Georgia Haslett

UKIP: Lauren Fairley, Felicity Birkett

Green: Holly McManus, Vivian Sadoun, Eliza MacQuillan
