Director of Riding takes on GB Juniors

British Eventing has just announced that Darrell Scaife FBHS, Stonar’s Director of Riding, is to become Chair of Selectors and Chef d'Equipe of the British Junior Eventing team with immediate effect.

As Chair, Darrell will oversee the process, through Junior Selectors and Coaches, of identifying suitably talented combinations from the U18 Novice Programme. A programme of training in the early months of each year provides training opportunities for riders, followed by formal trials at selected venues to give riders a chance to demonstrate their potential in competition. By the summer, a squad is chosen to represent Great Britain at the Junior European Championships.

“It is a huge privilege to have been asked to take on the role of Chair. Ginnie has put in place a great programme, run by a well-oiled machine. My job is to make sure that we continue to bring home the medals and produce the stars of the future” said Darrell.

Current Chairman of the Junior Selectors Ginnie Keen said “I’m delighted that Darrell is taking over, with the huge amount of knowledge that he has, and I am confident that he will do a great job.”

Darrell has been a Junior Selector for the Racesafe sponsored British Junior Team for the past two years and his initial contract is for two years to tie in with the Olympic cycle.

As a past competitor and member of the World Class Performance Squad, Darrell understands the sport from both sides. He is a Fellow of the British Horse Society, a BE Accredited Coach and he also holds the UKCC level three coaching certificate. Darrell is a Coach on the FEI Solidarity Team for Sub Saharan Africa, and is involved with the Ebony Horse Club which caters for underprivileged young people in Brixton, London.

“We are delighted that Darrell is to take on this key role that develops young UK equestrian talent. Since joining Stonar, Darrell’s philosophy that every rider must gain a thorough grounding in horsemanship, now underpins the riding education we offer.  Stonar Equestrian has been expanded and developed considerably under his leadership” said Toby Nutt, Head.
