Learning

Stonar’s Pre-prep and Preparatory Schools offer a broad curriculum.

In the Pre-prep, the Early Learning Goals make way for the demands of the Early Years Foundation Stage, then Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum and ultimately, when the pupils are seven, they enter Key Stage 2, the curriculum begins to be taught by specialist staff and additional subjects are added.

The vitally important subjects of Mathematics, English, Science and ICT are taught in a differentiated manner to ensure that all children feel that they are making progress with achieving their next goal.

The broader curriculum, including the Humanities, a modern foreign language, Art, Music, Dance, Drama, PE, Games, Swimming and PSHE are all also included in our exciting timetables.

Our curriculum extends beyond these areas though. We offer courses for able, gifted and talented children, Saturday morning extension courses and a variety of regular trips within the UK and abroad for both day and boarding pupils.

Our aim is to encourage all pupils to achieve their potential by giving them the individual attention they require.  All of our activities are designed with a range of needs and capabilities in mind - with support or extension activities, in place.

English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is given to international students in the prep school, with four lessons per week available at no extra charge.

Materials appropriate for younger learners are used and lessons concentrate on building vocabulary and developing listening and speaking skills essential for participating in class.
